Why Hot-Dip Galvanising?
At Urbanfab, hot-dip galvanising is a core part of our engineering philosophy. Every mild-steel product we manufacture is hot-dip galvanised after fabrication by Highland Galvanizers to ISO 1461:2022, providing durable corrosion protection, low maintenance and long-term performance.
Built to Resist Corrosion
A durable zinc coating provides long-term corrosion resistance, while its sacrificial properties continue to protect the underlying steel if the surface is scratched or damaged.
.
Protection Where You Can’t See It
Immersion in molten zinc ensures protection reaches welds, joints and difficult‑to‑coat areas, helping safeguard the structure from within as well as across the visible surface.
.
Made for the Long Term
Durable, predictable corrosion protection reduces maintenance over the life of the structure, supporting fewer repairs, fewer replacements and confidence in performance.
WHY HOT-DIP GALVANISING MATTERS
Steel is strong. Rust isn’t.
Unprotected steel exposed to moisture and the elements will eventually begin to corrode. Hot-dip galvanising provides a tough, metallurgically bonded zinc coating that protects the underlying steel and helps prevent corrosion from taking hold.
This protection is particularly important for cycle shelters and smoking shelters, which are constructed using hollow-section mild steel and incorporate numerous bolted connections. If moisture enters an unprotected hollow section, corrosion can develop internally, often in areas that are difficult to see or maintain.
Structural Confidence
Hot‑dip galvanising delivers long‑lasting corrosion protection, maintaining strength and reliability over time.
Outdoor Ready
Built to resist moisture and daily weather exposure, supporting dependable outdoor performance.
Less Maintenance
A tough zinc coating reduces repainting and repair needs, keeping performance consistent over time.
Better Long-Term Value
Durable protection lowers lifetime repair costs, making galvanised steel a reliable, cost‑effective choice.
ISO 1461:2022 — A Recognised Standard for Galvanising
We specify hot‑dip galvanising to ISO 1461:2022, the recognised international standard governing protective zinc coatings on fabricated steel.
This standard defines the required coating thickness, finish, adhesion and inspection criteria, ensuring every galvanised component meets a consistent and reliable level of corrosion protection.
For Urbanfab, this means our steelwork is never simply described as ‘galvanised’. Every product is galvanised to a defined specification, applied through a controlled process, and assessed against recognised quality requirements.
Quality Protection. Built to Last.
From the steel we select to the protection we specify, we believe in doing things properly — creating robust structures engineered for long-term outdoor performance, with protection that goes beyond a conventional surface-applied finish. Made properly. Protected properly. Priced fairly.
