Technical Applicator Requirements

The following conditions are essential for hot‑dip galvanizing to be applied effectively and efficiently — all of which are met across the products we supply:

  • Galvanizing must be carried out in accordance with ISO 1461:2022.
  • A robust quality management system audited annually to BS EN ISO 1461:2022 (or equivalent) must be in place.
  • Full component traceability must be maintained throughout the process.
  • Post‑galvanizing inspection must confirm minimum coating thickness and address any surface defects, including the repair of allowable bare patches using ISO 1461:2022 procedures.
  • Materials must be suitably packaged prior to despatch to prevent transit damage.
  • The galvanizer should be a member of the Galvanizers Association, ensuring access to independent technical guidance for specifiers.

Onsite Handling & Protection

  • Handle and install galvanized steel carefully to avoid impact damage.
  • Protect materials stored on site from contamination or abrasion.
  • Avoid white rust by ensuring stacked galvanized items are separated with spacers or stored indoors if kept for more than three weeks.
  • Covering galvanized steel can increase sweating, raising the risk of white rust formation.
